Both interesting and good. A quick read that did not at all feel as dated as the publication date might make it seem.
I ordered this some time ago, but read it very recently. It is beautifully
and supencefully written and I was sorry when it was finished. Recommed it
to people who like fantasie!
I read this book as part of a German adult-ed conversation class. The language wasn't too difficult for non-native speakers, but at the same time it wasn't ridiculously easy. Certainly a great book for prompting discussion! I'm still thinking about all of the questions that have been left unanswered.
I purchased this to have an audiobook in German to practice my listening skill. Surprisingly it was available in US, CD arrived in timely manner, the set of 3 CDs played well. The actor Matthias Schweighöfer (The Red Baron, What a Man and Schlussmacher among other works) did a superb job in reading this novella that inspired Eyes Wide Shut, Kubrick's last movie. His pronunciation is clear and conveys well the complex array of emotions in each character and scenes. Recommendable to anyone interested in German/Austrian literature.
I "purchased" this (the German edition is free) because my favorite movie is Eyes Wide Shut that was adapted from this novelle and because the German appeared to be easy enough for me to read with my now-rusty high school German of more than fifty years ago. It is quite readable with a German dictionary and a basic grounding in German. I haven't nearly finished it; but I am enjoying it and enjoying the experience of how Stanley Kubrick adapted it into the movie. I recommend it highly it anyone with this interest and at least some basic ability to read German.
